A Soul Food Gem! I dined here and everything was fantastic. The fish was cooked to perfection - flaky, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The cornbread was literally the best I've ever had. The pear salad was a perfect combination of sweet pears, pecans, blue cheese, cranberries, greens, and a light vinaigrette dressing. For the sides, we had collard greens and mac and cheese, neither of which disappointed. Lastly, the service was friendly and attentive. 5 stars!!
The food here was absolutely fantastic. Excellent soul food, you can taste the love that went into making it. Small place, playing great music and friendly accommodating staff. Look forward to coming again!
The food is delicious. I ordered the chicken and waffles and Mac and cheese. My friend ordered the fish and grits and peach cobbler cheesecake. The chicken was seasoned well and cooked to crispy perfection. The waffle tasted delicious with a hint of cinnamon. I tasted my friend's fish and grits and they were delicious as well. The fish was nice and crispy. I would definitely come again. This will be my go to spot for chicken and waffles since leaving Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Long Beach, CA. The service went well. We ordered at the Kiosk and sat at the bar area. Food was freshly prepared. Owner was pleasant and had friendly conversation. Although the space is small, the vibe is pleasant. Black inspired artwork hung on the walls. Great place to go to get your soul food fix.
Been twice. Took my parents the second time. We had the catfish, blackened salmon, and smothered pork chops with southern cabbage and green beans. All of it was delicious! And the people who work there are super friendly. We are definitely going back!
Finally had the opportunity to try one of Woodbridge's newest restaurants. Authentic soul food restaurants are few and far between in the DMV area. The fried fish was good and comes with a seafood sauce. Everything we tried was good. My ultimate favorite was the peach cobbler cheesecake. Best homemade cheesecake I have had in a while. Tip: Seating is limited. There's not enough space for dining in.
was decent.. crispy fried fish.. flavorful sweet potatoes, cornbread was nice and moist, feel like I shoulda got more for $50 (before delivery n tip) for 2 ppl.. but it is what it is.. 2024 Mac must be an off night... wasn't feeling the lack of seasoning.. but yeah no complaint w rest of order. I'd eat here again if I get a raise. not sure how my CNA and Call Center friends afford to get this grubhubbed... i think prices are less in person... gotta be. maybe I'll come in if my numbers hit.

Down Home Comfort Cafe is truly the perfect name for this establishment! Though it's small and quaint, the hospitality here is grand. You feel the love in every bite of food, and the owners and staff are incredibly warm and welcoming. The artwork inside celebrates Black love, strength, and unity, with a striking portrait of the owners on the main wall -- a powerful tribute to Black excellence in action. My boyfriend, a true Southerner, ordered the catfish tenders and immediately noticed the flavorful, perfectly seasoned breading that needed no ketchup -- a rare compliment! I had the fried chicken and waffle, and every bite was a delight. The waffle was rich with flavor, and the wings were perfectly crispy. They even had mambo sauce, a DC staple! I came all the way from PG County (an hour's drive) to try the famous mac and cheese. Initially, it was sold out, but the chef went above and beyond, making a fresh batch while we waited. I was thrilled they honored their roots, bringing authentic soul food to Woodbridge, VA. This is a 5-star southern cafe experience. Definitely worth the trip!
Food was decent. Fish & chicken tenders were very salty. Sides were good. Have a plan. 5 mins from Kohl's & behind Lowe's off Smoketown. A to-go meal for 2 people took 22 mins. I and others use a Kiosk via a card is to place orders. Kiosk sits immediately on your right upon opening the door, so if someone is already there, plan on standing with the door open, if 1 other is waiting before you. If no one is waiting to order, stand to small space on the left. With only 6 tables to sit down, (addl seats at bar) it's a tight space to comfortably move about. Dine-in option for 2 will be by a blessing. 2 tables avail for 4, but it will be a tight fit. Plenty of parking. Fellas if you need a cut, 2 shops steps away while you wait, 1 being J's Hair Academy
I'm madly in love. Sorry no pics but we were all hungry. After a morning of hiking and kayaking at Lakeridge Marina we had to visit this spot. They opened at 12 on a Saturday. Small, quaint, with a lovely hostess. Clean bathrooms! You order from your phone using the barcodes on your table. You also are able to pay there as well. Our food came out fresh, hot and flavorful!!!!! 2 of us had the chicken and sweet potato waffles. You dont need the syrup since the waffles actually have flavor. The chicken was seasoned. I also was in the mood for grits which were very good a bit salty for me but I dont use salt normally so my taste buds are sensitive. My friend got the fried fish sandwich and collard greens. We are all from the South lol and we all loved our food. I am currently sitting in my bed with my bread pudding!!!!! Don't want to share. Can't wait to return. This place gets busy very quickly.
